ACE funding, paintings on TV, and maternity leave

Arts Council England funded artist

I’m thrilled to have been awarded grant funding via Arts Council England’s Developing Your Creative Practice programme.

This will allow me to broaden my artistic repertoire and further strengthen my visual language through new skills and mediums; specifically training in welding, plasma-cutting and screen-printing.

I’m excited to see how different formats impact my artwork and its applications, especially the interplay of 2D and 3D with a move into sculptural works; and the ability to reproduce treasured forms from and onto my painted and other works. New ways of working may also open up opportunities for new types of collaborations, settings, and ultimately reaching new audiences.

This funding is all the more welcome as I’m about to start a period of maternity leave. Having experienced the challenges of balancing very young children and my art work twice before, I know that DYCP activities which support a focus on and expand my practice will make a huge difference. I’m looking forward to not just feeling permitted (by myself) but actually being required to prioritise my art work and personal development as I emerge from the first few months of caring for a new-born.

I’ll be focussing on this programme of work, spanning my studio practice, training with established artists, mentoring, and wider engagement from April 2027.

As seen on TV!

You can see paintings commissioned by sculptor Paul Pibworth for the house he was building in Cornwall in Episode 2 of George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces: First Home (Channel 4). Due to editing decisions I’m not actually named as the artist, but at least a ‘she’ stayed in there to tell the audience that these big beautiful things were made by a woman! I love how these artworks turned out, and Paul’s vision to build the largest artwork into the wall so that it’s literally part of the fabric of this wonderful building.

Maternity leave from mid-October 2026

As above, I will be on maternity leave imminently, so my art work may slow down / shift for a time. I will still be available to contact, so please do still get in touch if you have any queries / proposals as I’d love to hear from you.
